So my first year at The University of Portsmouth studying illustration is coning to a close. although i would have preferred to have been studying on campus and have had the normal student life i am really happy with what i have achieved this year. i feel like i have become more independent with my studying as i have had to be, not having tutors instantly available has been challenging but i have gotten by and i believe i have done a good job with my final unit.
My final unit was to create a children's book with the concept of time. i started research into zodiacs and how the stars have been used to navigate and tell the time, i looked into fantasy and fairy-tails and how they can be set in the past, present and future, and finally i looked into my favourite time of year; halloween. halloween is where my idea for MONTY came from. monty wasn't originally my first idea but i changed my mind last minuet and decided i would go with my gut.
i not only illustrated every page of this children's book but i also wrote every word in it as well. i decided that the whole book would rhyme to appeal more to the younger audience. I took inspiration from lots of other children's books such as the Dr Seuss books and many of Julia Donaldsons books.
I am over the moon at how well i executed this project and i would absolutely love if one day monty would be published and available to buy. the meaning behind monty is that you do not have to change to make friends and i believe thats an important lesson that children should know.
